Bible verse tattoos. All of your favorite bible verses on people’s skin. These gorgeous tattoos are exactly what you may be looking for to inspire you and honor God. So you’re the religious type. Or you’re not…Either way, I’m sure you can appreciate these bible verse tattoos and the messages of love and grace that they represent. While some choose to get the actual words of a particular verse tattooed, others opt for the numbers that represent their favorite verse. Verse numbers weren’t always a part of this historic book; French scholar Robert Estienne was the first to number the specific phrases within each chapter in the mid-16th century. With 66 books divided into the Old and New Testaments, there are plenty of verses from the best-selling book in the world for folks to be inspired by.

48. Oh the irony bible verse tattoos
“Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves. I am the LORD.”
Hmm…either this person was going for irony or he had no idea what this particular verse actually stood for. Bible verse tattoos are quite powerful. Or perhaps this passage has nothing to do with getting inked and more to do with cult religious worship. Today, getting a tattoo is a decorative means of self expression and personal decoration and I don’t think the Lord would mind too much; in fact, I think he’d be downright flattered by all the people choosing to get his words inked on their bodies for life. Talk about a lasting tribute.

47. Love is patient bible verse tattoos
The Apostle Paul wrote the first book of the Corinthians in about 56 A.D. The specific verse referenced by the numbers in the tattoo here may be one of the most popular and recognizable of the Bible. It’s a longer verse, hence the reason why most get the numbers, or certain lines, as a tribute rather than the actual words. I especially love the anchor detail here, holding down the verse as a constant reminder.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.”
46. Pretty Foot Tribute
“For we live by faith, not by sight.”
I love the placement of this particular piece! Delicate and pretty, this tattoo is a reminder to have faith with each step taken. I like the addition of the cross near the heel too.

45. Strength & Power
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
The letter of Paul and Timothy to the Philippians, often referred to simply as Philippians, is the eleventh book in the New Testament. Placed near the heart, this tattoo is a wonderful reminder to have strength and courage in this life. I really like the font as well.
44. Tim’s Dove Tattoo
Bible verse tattoos often include crosses, but the dove has also served as a popular symbol of Christianity and The Holy Spirit since ancient times. This particular dove is beautifully designed and serves as an ode to this spirited passage: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
If you love birds and feel inspired by this dove but The Bible isn’t your thing, check out 90 astonishing bird tattoos here.
43. Snapshot Verse
How awesome is this piece? Definitely unique among bible verse tattoos, this design features a super vintage-looking camera surrounded by pretty blue and purple flowers. The proverb noted here is “18:16” which essentially translates into this verse: “A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great.”
A super cool reminder that it’s better to give than to receive. Most of the time. Bible verse tattoos cut deep.
42. Jeremiah Dove Bible Verse Tattoos
This is a simply beautiful wrist tattoo that holds deep meaning. Jeremiah 29-11 stands for this verse: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'” I really like the meaning and placement of this verse; life can be overwhelming and seem unfair at times but I do like to believe that everything works out as it should. It’s a nice reminder to hold on to hope and look forward to the future.
The book of Jeremiah was written between 630 and 580 B.C. and records the final prophecies to Judah, warning of oncoming destruction if the nation does not repent.
41. Collective Steps Bible Verse Tattoos
Y’all know I love a paw print. Proof? I have one tattooed on my wrist… so naturally this tattoo stood out to me! I love the mix of paw prints and footprints here. This is another ode to the popular Philippians 4:13 verse.
Thinking about getting a footprint tattoo? Take a gander at 25 of the best right here.
40. Anchored Verse
Jeez, how many symbols can one tie into a single tattoo?! I love it!! This is definitely one of the most creative infinity signs I’ve ever seen. From the anchor’s braided rope being used as the loop to the cross within the anchor, this design is so unique and beautiful. The details and shading are perfect, as well as the font used for the verse name and number. The Book of Joshua, referenced in this tattoo, is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament.
If you love anchors as much as a sailor, check out 40 other amazing anchor tattoos right here.
39. Colorful Feather
“The Lord will cover one with his feathers and under his wings I will find refuge.”
The above verse comes from Psalm 91:4. The Book of Psalms is the first book of the Ketuvim, the third section of the Hebrew Bible, and a book of the Christian Old Testament. I love the bold colors of the feather in this piece and the integration of the dragonfly and birds. Whimsical, yet meaningful!
Inspired by this beautiful feather? Take a gander at these 35 feather tattoos that will inspire you to fly.
38. In loving memory bible verse tattoos
This scroll is a nice piece in memory of a loved one. Some of the earliest biblical texts were actually written on scrolls made of papyrus or parchment paper. The artist did a wonderful job from the shading to the torn edges to make it seem more realistic. The book of Peter, referenced in the above verse, can be found in the New Testament.
37. Whimsical Psalms
Wow. Can we all just take a moment and truly admire this piece? Too freakin’ lovely. From her nails to the tattoo, this woman is rocking at life. The artist’s line work here is so, so well done. This design is meant to represent Psalms 148: 3 which stands for the following verse:
“Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars.”
Shine bright like a diamond. Ah, speaking of diamonds — check out 30 nice diamond tattoo designs over here.
36. Love & Hope
So much is happening in both of these wrist tattoos and I love all of it. From the use of hearts within the words to the musically inspired heart designed, these tattoos are bold and beautiful…like the soap opera. But less dramatic.
The meaning behind 1 John 4:19 is: “We love because he first loved us.” John the Apostle was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. (P.s. If you heart the music note, check out 15 music note tattoo designs here that’ll have you singing hymns.)
The meaning behind Hebrews 6:19 is: “We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. ”
No matter the religion, we can, and definitely should, all stand behind messages of love and hope.
35. Psalms 3:5 Bible Verse Tattoos
Unlike some other bible verse tattoos, the quote directly above the reference number here doesn’t exactly match. The translation of Psalms 3:5 is: “I lie down and sleep; I wake again, for the Lord sustains me.” So perhaps this is a reference to needing the Lord to continue waking up every day. Either way, I really love the font and placement of this piece!
34. Hand Tattoo
Who needs brass knuckles when you have John by your side? I like the use of crosses in lieu of colons for the reference number here. The meaning behind this is super cool too: “Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” Yes! That’s something we can all get behind, right? Let’s judge based on character and actions as beauty is truly found on the inside. Thanks for the reminder, John!

33. From suffering to glory
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” What better symbol to pair with this line than that of a flower? Flowers can grow in the most dreadful of places; a true sign of beauty and life, even in the wake of disaster. I love the colorful flower in this piece and the line work within the font.
Perhaps you’re looking to get a flower tattoo sans bible verses? Do you love dandelion’s as much as I do? Well, you’re in luck! Check out 40 seriously beautiful dandelion designs right here.
32. Watercolor Bible Verse Tattoos
I love watercolor tattoos! The words of Jeremiah 17:9 are really universal as the heart is indeed a mysterious force that we all succumb to. Lord knows I don’t always understand my heart, but nonetheless it’s important to follow it. Thanks for understanding the struggle, Jeremiah! Bible verse tattoos for the win.
31. My dear deer
Of the many bible verse tattoos I’ve come across, this is definitely one of my favorites. Deer are such lovely creatures and the artist certainly did them justice with this beautiful design. And that flower! Bright and beautiful, it adds the perfect pop to this piece. I’m also really loving the font of “Matthew 19:16” which stands for the following verse:
“Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
Perhaps we can find the answer to eternal life by looking at deer? There are actually bible verses that refer to the white-tailed animals, like Psalm 18:33: “He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.”
30. Simple Reminder Bible Verse Tattoos
I love this tattoo so much. The font is perfectly imperfect and the placement works so well. The line is part of this verse from the Book of Psalms:
“Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.”
A lovely reminder that one is never truly alone.
29. Psalms 31:5
Beautifully designed, this tattoo is another ode to the Book of Psalms. I love the scripted font and additional crosses in this piece.
28. Endless possibilities
The placement of this tattoo is so neat! Matthew 19:26 reminds us that God sees possibility in everything…so don’t be discouraged! The Gospel According to Matthew is found in the first book of the New Testament. Bible verse tattoos.
27. Sweet Hummingbird Bible Verse Tattoos
The Second Epistle to the Corinthians is the eighth book of the New Testament of the Bible and this particular verse means: “I had boasted to him about you, and you have not embarrassed me. But just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting about you to Titus has proved to be true as well.”
Hummingbirds are such neat little birds and this one is beautiful in both detail and coloring. The tattoo artist certainly didn’t embarrass the client in this case.
26. Fly Away
I forgot how much I love kites until I came across this lovely foot tattoo. The passage that this kite represents is: “For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” This tattoo is fun, whimsical and creative.
25. Love always wins
I particularly love the font used in this piece which refers to the full verse: “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.” Indeed, love is a beautiful thing.
24. Endless Faith Bible Verse Tattoos
Here’s more bible verse tattoos: I love the use of the infinity symbol in this tattoo design which stands for the following verse:
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Ah, being able to have blind faith is an incredible thing right? Life can make it hard to trust that things will work out, but this lovely wrist tattoo is a great reminder.
23. Psalms 23:6
“Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the LORD forever.” I cringe every time I see a foot tattoo because I think it must hurt so much but, like this piece, they always look so worth it. The font here is just lovely.
22. Simple Cross Tattoo
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
I love this bold, yet simple bible verse tattoo.
21. Endless Love Bible Verse Tattoos
The Book of Proverbs is the second book of the third section of the Hebrew Bible and a book of the Christian Old Testament. Proverbs 31:25 stands for this verse: “She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future.” I really like how the verse is incorporated into the heart design here.
20. Strength and Dignity
A bold ode to the Book of Proverbs, this person is not shy about her faith. It’s so interesting how people choose to represent the same verses in different ways, with different accents like the butterfly and ribbon used in this piece. You just saw this verse above in #21 but in a completely unique rendering from the tattoo pictured here. I love that! Bible verse tattoos for the win.
19. Beautiful Back Tattoo
What a beautiful tattoo! And it stands for the following verse:
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
18. Be Free Bible Verse Tattoos
I’m in love with the design of the bird cage in this particular bible verse tattoo. Also, there are 17 birds here and I’m hoping that was done purposely to correlate with the verse number, Romans 8: 1-17. How cool is that? This passage is a little long, but here’s a snippet of what this piece stands for:
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.”
17. Artistic Cross
I love tattoos that appear to have been done with the strokes of a paintbrush like the cross pictured here. It’s a nice break from the standard, more rigid, crosses I’ve seen in other bible verse tattoos.
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
16. Dainty wrist bible verse tattoos
This simple wrist tattoo stands for the following verse: “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
The Book of Exodus begins more than 400 years after Joseph, his brothers, and the Pharaoh he once served have all died. It’s the second book of the Torah and the Hebrew Bible.
15. Corinthians Verse
I love the font of this particular wrist tattoo which stands for the extremely well-known verse below:
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.”
14. Loopy Love
The ability of an artist to craft words in the shape of a larger word always blows my mind. This tattoo is such a neat ode to the words found in John 3:16. If you’re getting dizzy trying to decipher the words, I’ve included them below:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
13. Small Reminder Bible Verse Tattoos
Though it looks as if this tattoo may be an ode to someone (or someone’s pet) named “Izzi,” it’s actually a small reminder of the verse from the Book of Romans, 12:21.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”
I think the world could use more of that. Can everyone just get this tattoo as a constant reminder to do good? Sounds like a good idea to me.
12. Colorful Bible Verse
Yay, another lovely watercolor tattoo! Scholars believe the Book of Philippians, referenced in this piece, was written by St. Paul to the church of Philippi, an early center of Christianity in Greece around 62 AD.
11. Rejoice Challenges
Pro tip: if you’re worried about ever being without your phone in public and fear actually having to look up at your surroundings or *gasp* actually talk to someone, just get a nice, long bible verse tattooed on your forearm like this person did! You’ll never be without something to read again! It also helps when you get a nice, easy to read font design too, like the one above. The little “NIV” following the verse numbers here stands for “new international version,” which is the most widely read Bible translation in contemporary English.
10. Love your enemies Bible Verse Tattoos
This bold passage comes from Luke 6:35. The Gospel of Luke is the third, and longest, of the four Gospels. It tells of the origins, birth, ministry, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ.
9. Psalm Tattoo
“Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he will give me the desires of my heart.”
8. Love is Kind
Yet another rendition of the popular 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 verse. It’s interesting to see how some choose to be reminded of this verse through simply the verse numbers, while others opt to get large chunks of passages inked on for life. Both are beautiful tributes to the words of the Bible.
7. A dove’s tale Bible Verse Tattoos
All of the swirls in this tattoo had me like, ‘wait, what does this say?’ Alas, this is what it says:
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Makes sense that this person decided to have these words tattooed on the foot of all places. I like the design of the dove here who appears to have strung the words together with ribbon.
6. Spirit of God
These bold words are a tribute to Genesis 1:1. The Book of Genesis is the first book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Old Testament. Its narrative explains God’s creation of the world, as well as of the first man and woman (Adam and Eve, y’all).
5. Your heart’s desire
This beautiful tattoo is a representation of Psalm 37:4. This piece certainly takes up a bit of real estate on this person, but I really like the delicate font paired with the giant, colorful flowers.
4. Simple Bible Verse Tattoos
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
3. Faith guides us
“We walk by faith, not by sight.” – 2 Corinthians 5:7
Love this well-placed piece (and that wedge heel).
2. Beautiful Bible Verse Tattoos
I love the playful script font and cross design on this wrist tattoo. The verse number stands for the following:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God.
Who wouldn’t want a cool reminder that there’s always hope and a future? Ah, OK so you prefer to find life meaning through Disney movies (like me) rather than through Bible verses? Well then, check out 38 awesome Disney tattoos right here.
1. Matthew’s Dove
“Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”
This lovely dove is surrounded by a fun pink aura as it flies along with an olive branch in tow. Christians in Rome used to incorporate the image of a dove carrying an olive branch into their funerary art. The dove and olive branch also appeared in Christian images of Noah’s ark.
